Hotel Barriere Le Normandy opened in 1912, designed by Theo Petit in the Norman half-timbered style that has defined Deauville ever since. It was built as one element of a single resort project: hotel, casino, racecourse and beach, all opened within a few years of each other to create a season on the Channel coast.
The hotel holds 226 rooms and 45 suites around interior courtyards, and it remains part of Groupe Barriere, which also owns the casino across the street. That common ownership is why the two buildings still work as one property in practice, even though they are a few minutes apart on foot.
Location
The hotel stands a short walk from Les Planches, the wooden boardwalk lined with beach huts named after the film stars of the Deauville festival. The casino is about 250 metres away, the marina and the racecourse are within walking distance, and Trouville-sur-Mer sits across the Touques. Paris is roughly two hours by road or rail, which is what made the resort viable in 1912 and keeps it busy now.

Entertainment
The casino building contains a theatre and event spaces, and Deauville's calendar is unusually full for a town of its size: the American Film Festival in September, racing at La Touques through the summer, and the equestrian sales at Arqana. The beach and the boardwalk supply the daytime.
Nearby
Les Planches and the beach huts are the postcard. The Deauville-La Touques racecourse, Port Deauville marina and the older fishing town of Trouville across the river are all within a walk, and the Normandy landing beaches are a drive west.

Casino Barriere de Deauville opened in 1912 and is operated by Groupe Barriere. It occupies a Belle Epoque building facing the sea about 250 metres from the hotel, with classical gaming rooms, slot machines, roulette, blackjack and poker as published by the operator, and a theatre inside the same building.
It is open daily from 10:00 to 02:00 with longer weekend hours, and table opening times within that window are published by the casino. Entry is limited to adults aged 18 and over, a valid identity document is required, and a dress code applies in the gaming rooms.

Casino history
Deauville was created as a resort rather than a town that acquired one, and the casino was part of the original plan. Opening in 1912 alongside the hotel, it made the Channel coast a summer alternative to the spa casinos inland, and the combination of racing, sea bathing and gaming became the template copied along the coast. The building has been rebuilt and extended since, but the role it plays in the town has not changed in over a century.
