Open since 1872 on the Lichtentaler Allee promenade beside the Oos river
The property
Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa has been open since 1872 on Schillerstrasse, beside the Lichtentaler Allee promenade and the Oos river. It has 110 rooms and suites across five floors and belongs to the Oetker Collection, and it is the hotel that most clearly expresses what Baden-Baden was designed to be: a spa town where the treatment, the park and the casino formed a single social season.
The scale is the point. A hundred and ten rooms in a town this size means a quiet property with a large park, a serious spa operation in Villa Stephanie, and a location that puts the Kurhaus, the thermal baths and the concert hall within a short walk.
Location
The hotel sits directly on Lichtentaler Allee, the ginkgo-lined park promenade that runs along the Oos. The Kurhaus and the casino are about seven minutes away on foot through the park, the Trinkhalle a little beyond, and the Friedrichsbad and Caracalla thermal baths are in the old town above. The Festspielhaus, one of the largest concert halls in Europe, is a short walk north.
Rooms and accommodation
There are 110 rooms and suites over five floors, many facing the private park and the Allee. This is a small inventory by the standards of the other properties in our list, and the service model follows from it. Room categories and accessibility details are published by the Oetker Collection.
Amenities and services
Villa Stephanie is the spa, with medical wellness facilities alongside the conventional treatment rooms, and there is an indoor pool and a private park along the Allee. The hotel is built for stays measured in days rather than nights.

Entertainment
The Festspielhaus programmes opera and orchestral concerts on an international scale, the casino offers guided tours of its historic rooms outside gaming hours, and the thermal baths are the reason the town exists. In summer the Allee itself is the entertainment.
Nearby
The Kurhaus and Trinkhalle, Lichtentaler Allee, the Friedrichsbad and Caracalla baths, and the Festspielhaus are all within a walk. The Black Forest begins immediately behind the town.

Casino Baden-Baden
Slot machines from 12:00, classic gaming from 14:00, both close at 02:00
The casino
Casino Baden-Baden occupies the Kurhaus, a building completed in 1824 to designs by Friedrich Weinbrenner, with a Corinthian portico and neo-classical interiors. The classic gaming area offers roulette, blackjack and poker; slot machines open at noon, the classic tables at 14:00, and both close at 02:00.
Admission is from the age of 21 and a valid identity document is checked at the door. The classic gaming area requires elegant evening wear, and men are required to wear a jacket, which can be borrowed at reception for ten euros. Guided tours of the rooms run outside gaming hours, which is the easiest way to see the interiors without playing.

Casino history
A casino was part of the Kurhaus from its completion in 1824, but its international reputation dates from the 1830s, when France banned gambling and the players crossed the Rhine. For several decades Baden-Baden was the summer capital of European gaming, drawing writers, aristocracy and professional players in equal measure. Prussian law closed the German casinos in 1872, the same year Brenners opened, and gaming returned in the twentieth century. The rooms you walk through today are the ones built for that first boom.
House rules and entry
Admission is from 21 years of age, with a valid identity document checked at the entrance. Elegant evening wear is required in the classic gaming area and a jacket is required for men, available on loan at reception for ten euros. Opening hours differ between the slot machine area and the classic gaming rooms.

Responsible gambling
Gambling is entertainment with a price, not a way to make money. Set a budget before you enter, keep it separate from the money you need for the trip, and stop when it is gone. Every casino in this list must offer self-exclusion on request.
